What type of flooring should you choose for your laundry room?
The laundry room in your house cannot be decorated with a carpet or some fancy type of flooring. The flooring in the laundry room needs to be robust and must have the ability to resist water and moisture. It should also be able to withstand wear and tear. Most of the interior designers recommend the use of vinyl flooring but if you do not prefer vinyl, you can also choose tiles or planks.

The Vinyl Option
The characteristic of vinyl flooring that makes it most suitable for the laundry room is its impermeability. More than any other room in the house, the laundry room is likely to be subjected to standing water, which can permanently damage wool carpeting as well as hardwood and even laminate flooring. Vinyl is also highly durable, and that’s important in a high-traffic area like the laundry room. Moreover, vinyl is inexpensive — and in most cases, you won’t have to hire a contractor to install it. The only prerequisites for installation are a flat, clean subfloor and a free day or two.
Tiles and Low-Pile Carpeting
Ceramic tiles are also appropriate for laundry room floors. They’re durable and waterproof, but they aren’t as easy to install as vinyl flooring. The job requires a thorough subfloor preparation that usually includes installation of a layer of backer board to prevent tile movement and cracking. If you need extra insulation and texture in the laundry room, you don’t have to avoid carpeting altogether. You can choose from a variety of low-pile styles — think commercial or “office” carpeting — that are water resistant, easy on your feet and comfortable for toddlers who are still unsure on theirs.
